meet: Brad Nelson

Brad Nelson, CFP®, P.E.

Based in Point Loma, San Diego, Brad serves clients locally and throughout the United States.

Brad began his career as an engineer, where he developed a disciplined, analytical approach to solving complex problems. As he worked toward financial independence, he applied that same mindset to investing and financial planning—carefully researching how the industry works and evaluating widely accepted ideas against independent, evidence-based research.

Through this process, Brad developed a clear philosophy grounded in objective analysis rather than convention. Today, he is retired from engineering and enjoys helping engineers and other thoughtful professionals apply these principles to their own financial lives with clarity and confidence.

Brad does not attempt to predict the future, but believes investors can and should prepare for a wide range of possible outcomes. His approach reflects an “all-weather” investment philosophy, which often includes diversifying beyond traditional stock and bond allocations.

Brad is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering. He has worked across government, military, and private sectors, and served as a submariner in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Captain in the Navy Reserve.

After spending much of his adult life in the Washington, D.C. metro area, Brad achieved financial independence and relocated to San Diego to enjoy its year-round climate and coastal lifestyle.

Outside of his work with clients, Brad enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, focusing on personal fitness, sailing, and classic cars.
